A cropped contact print from an 8 X 10 inches negative, this narrow photograph of a canyon in the financial district was taken as part of an exhaustive survey of New York architecture that Abbott undertook in the 1930s. The photographs were exhibited in 1933, 1934, and 1937 at The Museum of the City of New York in the last instance as "Changing New York," under the auspices of the Federal Art Project of the Works Project Administration.
