Roland PICHET ,
Painter of Excellence
Roland Pichet (1936 - 2003) is an artist born in Montreal, being a member of the Royal Canadian Academy, who exhibits his paintings, watercolors and prints still today.
Although he started after his fifties, Pichet took classes in drawing, painting, engraving and lithography in the Montreal School of Fine Arts and under the mentorship of some artists, such as Alfredo Monros.
Since 1962, Roland Pichet has been professor of engraving at the University of Québec in Montreal.
Later, he traveled to Europe as a Fellow on several occasions, including the Canada Council for the Arts in 1963 and 1971, and won several prizes in painting and engraving.
Between 1964 and 1968, he lives in cities such as Paris (where he works in the lithography workshop of Jean Pons and the lithography workshop Desjobert) and London (where he studied engraving and screen printing at the University of Paris ) which will allow him to perform exhibitions in both group and solo.
He exhibited solo in 1966 at the House of Canadian Students in Paris, at the Galerie Libre in Montreal, at Galerie 1640 and regularly every year since 1970 at the Galerie l'Apogée in Saint-Sauveur.
In 1977, he exhibited at Galerie Bernard Desroches in Montreal and La Lucarne de Saint-Sauveur, in 1978 at Kaspar in Toronto.
Pichet has participated in numerous group exhibitions, notably with the New International Group of which he is a founding member, in several major cities in Europe, Canada and South America.
He has also participated in international, biennial engraving events in Ljubljana in the former Yugoslavia, Krakow in Poland, as well as in Chile and Norway. His works are represented in the most important public collections in Canada and abroad.
Her works have also illustrated luxury albums, including Water and Stone, Stateless Mother, Homage to Dumouchel, Elegy and Autumn. His works, charged with a very minimalist sense of Canadian belonging, can be paired with those of Jean-Paul Riopelle as allegories to winter landscapes.
They are part of the most influential collections inside and outside Canada.
To name only the most important: the National Gallery of Canada, the Museum of Fine Arts of Montreal, the Museum of the Province of Quebec, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the British Museum in London, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.

Roland Pichet (1936 – 2003) est un artiste montréalais, et membre de l’Académie Royale Canadienne qui expose ses peintures, ses aquarelles et ses gravures.
Bien qu’il ait commencé après sa cinquantaine, Pichet prend des cours en dessin, peinture, gravure et lithographie dans l’école des Beaux-arts de Montréal et sous le mentorat de quelques artistes, comme Alfredo Monros.
Depuis 1962, Roland Pichet est professeur de gravure à l'Université du Québec à Montréal.
Par la suite, il voyage en Europe en tant que boursier à plusieurs reprises, notamment du Conseil des Arts en 1963 et 1971 , et a obtenu plusieurs prix en peinture et en gravure.
Entre 1964 et 1968 , il réside dans des villes comme Paris (où il travaille à l'atelier de lithographie de Jean Pons et à l'atelier de lithographie Desjobert) et Londres (où il étudie la gravure et la sérigraphie à l'Université de Londres) ce qui lui permettra d’y réaliser des expos tant en groupe qu’en solo.
Il a exposé en solo en 1966 à la Maison des étudiants canadiens à Paris, à la Galerie Libre à Montréal, à la Galerie 1640 et régulièrement chaque année depuis 1970 à la Galerie l'Apogée à Saint-Sauveur.
En 1977, il expose à la Galerie Bernard Desroches à Montréal et à La Lucarne de Saint-Sauveur, en 1978 chez Kaspar à Toronto.
Pichet a participé à de nombreuses expositions de groupe, notamment avec le New International Group dont il est un des membres fondateurs, dans plusieurs grandes villes en Europe, au Canada et en Amérique du Sud.
Il a également participé à des manifestations internationales, biennales de gravure de Ljubljana en ex-Yougoslavie, Cracovie en Pologne ainsi qu'au Chili et en Norvège. Ses oeuvres sont représentées dans les plus importantes collections publiques au Canada et à l'étranger.
Ses oeuvres ont également illustré des albums de luxe, dont L'eau et la pierre, Apatride, Mère, Hommage à Dumouchel, Élégie et Automne.
Ses œuvres, chargées d’un sentiment d’appartenance canadien très minimaliste, peuvent se jumeler avec celles de Jean-Paul Riopelle comme étant des allégories aux paysages hivernales.
Elles font parties des collections les plus influentes a l’intérieur et à l’extérieur du Canada.
Pour ne nommer que les plus importantes: la Galerie Nationale du Canada, le Musée des Beaux-Arts de Montréal, le Musée de la Province de Québec, la Galerie d’art d’Ontario, le Musée d’Art Moderne de New York, le Musée Britannique de Londres, le Musée Stedelijk d'Amsterdam.
