John Kenneth Esler, born in Pilot Mound, Manitoba, in 1933, is a graphic artist and a pioneer in the Canadian printmaking industry. He received two degrees from the University of Manitoba, one in the Fine Arts and the other in Education; he applied both in his career. From 1964 to 1980 he was a teacher of printmaking at the University of Calgary, the city where he spent much of his artistic career. From 1976 to 1978, he was the head of the Print and Drawing Council of Canada and an important member of the artistic community of Alberta and Manitoba, not only for his creative and new methods of printing but also for his involvement in professional organizations, both as an exhibitor and jury member. His pieces can be found in the most important art institutions of North America like The Museum of Modern Art in New York, The National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa, The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, and the Vancouver Art Gallery. Also, his work has been exhibited in Japan, Britain, Germany, Poland, and Chile. Artistica is the exclusive publisher of all of John’s Esler graphic work.
