Josep Baqués is a Spanish self-taught artist whose contribution and works in Graphic Design have been acknowledged and recognized nationally and internationally for his creativity, innovation, and rigor. Born in 1931, he was raised in the tranquil countryside of Spain on his father’s farm surrounded by nature and its fruits, but because of the Spanish Civil War, he moved to Barcelona. After working as a graphic designer in a publicity enterprise and later in his own workshop, he founded the first association for graphic designers in Spain, in 1961. During his prosperous career, Baqués has been awarded, exhibited, and recognized by numerous art institutions, competitions, galleries, and biennales in Spain and abroad. To name a few, the Joan Miró Competition of drawing, Painting Biennal of Tarrassa, Collective Show in Galerie Latina in Florida, etc. His work is an innate instinct to portray the Mediterranean light and to make a tribute to his Catholic faith and nation.
