Serge Hélénon was born 1934, in Martinique. He studied at the School of Applied Arts of Fort-de-France, and then at the School of Decorative Arts of Nice. After living in Africa for 20 years, he returned to Nice, where he currently lives and works. Serge Hélénon is part of the Vohou-Vohou movement, a pillar of contemporary art in Cote D'Ivore. Inspired by African creation, Serge Hélénon works with the matter, altering flat surfaces which, he says, "speak of force and magic". A well-listed artist, Helenon's works may be found in many public and private collections around the world.
